Continuing Professional Development

An important part of our mission is to support our members in their professional development and ongoing learning.

We are currently offering regular monthly dances held by teachers for teachers: Feet 1st. Please see here for details and next dates.

4 times a years, when the wheel of the season is shifting, our monthly dances take another turn and focus on a specific area of professional development and education.

For example : diversity, equity and inclusion work on the dance floor; music and DJ skills; non-violent communication; sexuality; creative processes such as writing / theater / voice work in conscious movement spaces, etc.

These sessions are held for 2 hours by a teacher expert of that field.

They are free for ICMTA members and open to non-members with an entrance fee.

If you have a particular skill or field of knowledge you would like to offer, please let us know at info@icmta.com. Expert teachers are paid for these events.

You can find the recordings of the past events here (only for members).

Embodied Sexuality: Feeling Your Yes and No

    with Imraan Ismail

    Sunday June 1st 2025

    5:00 PM BST - 6:00 PM CEST - 7:00 PM IDT - 7:00 PM MSK - 9 AM PDT - 12 pm EDT  (JUNE 2ND 2 AM AEST - 4 AM NZST )

This 2-hour online session offers a clear, experiential introduction to embodied sexuality.

We will begin with guided movement practice, focusing on developing somatic awareness of yes and no as they arise in the body. From there, we’ll transition into paired exercises to explore how these internal signals respond and shift in relational space.

The second part of the session includes two layers of group reflection:
    • A participant-centered discussion to share personal experience and insight
    • A facilitator-focused dialogue unpacking the teaching objectives and the structure behind the practice.
Finally we will cover the key principles of embodied sexuality, including foundational theory and accessible practices.

This session is designed to support both personal exploration and professional development, offering tools to deepen presence, cultivate consent, and engage the erotic with integrity and care.

    About Imraan

Born in South Africa as a person of colour and living through the end of Apartheid, I had an unusual childhood. In addition to being raised as Sufi, I realised I was queer.

This opened me up to a path of tantra as well as the LGBTQI+ community. I soon realised that there was a real need for people to become more aware of their boundaries and informed consent within these communities (and in general life).

I am trained as an Open Floor teacher, graduating in 2018. I am active in Sex Positive communities in Belgium and the Netherlands, teaching embodied consent workshops as well as workshops on grounding and centering while connecting to needs, desires and boundaries.

I have studied a more gentle approach to body-dearmouring that is trauma-informed.

I draw on all these teachings, together with my spiritual background, as well as my Masters’ degree in biochemistry and genetics, in my workshops.

WHAT WE DON'T KNOW: Embodied Social Justice for teachers of conscious movement who are interested in shared collaborative learning.

Sue Rickards and Deborah Lewin offered Part I (July 18th 2021) and Part II (September 12th 2021) of this event to share their knowledge and experience in the field of Social Justice, as well as create a space for shared learning.

One more event about Social Justice is currently in the cooking pot, please stay tuned.

ZOOM TUTORIAL

In March 2020, right at the beginning of all the lock-downs, Sarah Davies very swiftly offered ICMTA members a Zoom tutorial on teaching classes online. Many of us are still grateful to her for having helped us begin this new era of our teaching.

The full video is available for members here.

While we make every effort to ensure that the information on this site is accurate, we cannot guarantee that everything is up-to-date when you read it. Please check with us, or the ICMTA member concerned, if it is important.
